Morningside Hike: Uluguru Mountains

This past Sunday the group ventured on a 6 hour hike to Morningside in the Uluguru Mountains (our daily landscape) in Morogoro.

Claire & Patrick deemed this hike manageable and easy. I beg to differ. Let’s just say my rear is still screaming three days later. However, I agree that it was worth the views and I sure enough felt great about myself afterwards.

The Uluguru Mountains are crucial for the Tanzanians in the area. They offer cleaner water, places to farm, and an opportunity for agroforestry. Most of the fruits and vegetables sold at the open market are from the mountains. As we hiked up, we saw many families harvesting carrots and strawberries (we bought some of those)!

The families in the mountains were kind and humble. They are living a remarkable life with those views every morning!

Here is a little bit of our fun below. Click on the pictures for captions. My favorite might be Patrick doing the O-H-I-O thang with his newest colleagues.

For more about Tanzania, check out our friend, Molly’s, blog. She is photographing much of iAGRI this summer. She has some great photos to look at!

At the end of this week we will be leaving for Zanzibar and have one last giveaway. Stay tuned!

Where have you hiked before? I think I need to try it one more time before I decide if I like it or not!

Currently, we are celebrating our fourth year of marriage. When I married Patrick, I knew it was going to be a roller coaster of an adventure. However, little did I know, we would spend more time on a plane than in our home. We are beyond excited to share our adventures of soil science, developing countries, our move up north, teaching endeavors, special education, training for our runs and tid bits of our life. Here is our stories of a PhD student and teacher attempting to stay above average, so hang with us!
